The District covers an area of 156,000 square kilometres and has a population of 12,000 people, with Indigenous communities representing 56 per cent of the population. The Darling Downs-West Moreton area is a diverse area which has experienced rapid growth in recent times and will continue to flourish economically. The Coming of the Light festival every July and music and cultural festivals are not to be missed.
It’s hard to resist an area where you can watch dawn break over the water on the way to work each day, where five minutes drive in any direction takes you to a beach, and a mud crab can be bought for just a few dollars! These are communities where its people are eager to learn, yet don’t sacrifice their family values. Life in the Torres Strait- Northern Peninsula is a gift that needs to be experienced first-hand to be truly appreciated.
