Moranbah is a large mining town located in the Peak Downs region, south west of Mackay. Originally pastoral lands, Moranbah was established to service the developing Goonyella and Peak Downs Mines. The Moranbah Hospital is a 12 bed facility providing a range of in-patient and out-patient services including 24 hour emergency care, general medical and post-surgical admissions, respite and palliative care, radiographer/sonographer/medical imaging, physiotherapy services, and tele-health clinics for emergency, inpatient and specialist outpatient consultations.
Outpatient services include, dressing clinics; RFDS MO Womens Health Clinic, mobile womens health nurse, antenatal and postnatal clinics (shared care with private practice medical officers), and antenatal classes.
Community health services include, dietetics, physiotherapy, cccupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, social work, school based youth health nurse, child protection liaison officer, Meals on Wheels, home visits and support, immunisation clinics, child and adult federally funded programs, school health screening, child health clinics, Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS), health promotion and diabetic resources.
Community mental health services inclusive of adult and child clinicians, dual diagnosis and Indigenous advanced mental health worker, Alcohol Tobacco & Other Drugs Service (ATODS), and needle & syringe program access.
Due to the huge number of mine workers flocking to the town in recent years, rental prices are on the increase. The average house price in Moranbah is likewise higher than other towns in the region.
