Mackay Hospital "I enjoy the wide variety of patients I see in one day. Everybody is unique and interesting in their own way".
Middlemount is located in Central Queensland’s Peak Downs region. Built in the early 1980s, Middlemount has all the facilities of a modern country town, including an Olympic sized swimming pool and nine hole golf course. The town services the German Creek and Foxleigh mines as well as the local industries of grazing and crop production. Fields of blooming sunflowers and sorghum make Middlemount a stunning sight in the summer season. Middlemount offers a relaxed country lifestyle in a family-oriented community.
The Middlemount Community Health Centre provides clinics and a number of visiting health services to the population of Middlemount.
Clinics available include Well Baby, immunisation, community nursing, health promotion, Triple P program, antenatal classes and a school based vaccination program.
A number of allied health services visit the centre including counselling, community mental health for adults, children and adolescents, speech therapy and pathology.
Other visiting health services include a school based youth health nurse and a mobile women’s health clinic.
Middlemount is the ideal compromise for a couple or young family with one partner working for Queensland Health and one partner in the mining industry. The town’s own Macarthur Coal mine plus it’s proximity to the mines of Moranbah, Emerald and Dysart, makes Middlemount an ideal location for those who want to be central to the mining industry.
Summer in Middlemount can have high temperatures of 35 degrees and heavy rainfall. As such, it’s the cooler months of the year that Middlemount hosts its annual events such as the Labour Day picnic in May, Race Day in August and the Police Charity Golf Day in October. These family-friendly events are attended by the whole community and will become an annual fixture on your social calendar.
Blue Mountain, also known locally as the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ provides free barbeque facilities and lots of play areas for active little ones. The park’s panoramic view is only upstaged by the native Australian wildlife that appear at dusk – wallabies, kookaburras, galahs, blue mountain parrots and rainbow lorikeets.
