Glenden is a small mining town located in the Bowen Basin district, west of Mackay. It was established in 1982 to house the employees of Mount Isa Mines Limited who were developing the Newlands Mine. Today, mining is still the main industry in the town with grain, cattle and cane farming also popular.
Glenden is a modern township with excellent housing, school and recreation facilities.
As a Queensland Health employee in Glenden, you will be providing health services from the Glenden Community Health Centre.
The centre provides a number of clinics, outreach and visiting allied health services.
Clinics available include a Well Baby clinic, immunisation, community nursing, health promotion, Triple P program, antenatal, post natal and aged care clinics.
Visiting allied health services include counselling, community mental health for adults, children and youths as well as speech pathology.
All nursing services are outreached to Nebo weekly and other health services are outreached as required.
A school based youth health nurse and a mobile women’s health clinic visit the centre also.
As with most small towns in Queensland, your social life will dramatically improve while residing in Glenden. Visit Lake Elphinstone, 20km south of Glenden. A natural lake measuring eight kilometres long and one kilometre wide, it has plenty of facilities available for camping and fishing and is one of the few camping sites left that is free and pet friendly.
