Georgetown is a well developed little outback town situated on the Etheridge River in central far north Queensland. Originally a thriving gold mining town in the 1880s, Georgetown became the administrative centre for the Etheridge Shire’s cattle grazing industry in the 1900s. Today, cattle grazing is still the town’s primary industry, with mining and tourism minor contributors. Georgetown offers a peaceful and relaxed outback lifestyle in the rich and fertile environment of the Gulf Savannah.
