About Queensland Health
Who is Queensland Health?
Queensland Health is the State Government run health department committed to providing a range of services aimed at achieving good health and well being for all Queenslanders. With over 75,000 staff, Queensland Health is the third largest employer in Australia.
Queensland Health is divided into 15 health service districts. Service provision in each district depends on geographical location, access to skilled health professionals, population demographics, community needs and physical resources.
Through a network of 178 hospitals and healthcare facilities, Queensland Health delivers a range of integrated services including:
- hospital inpatient, outpatient and emergency services
- acute and community mental health services
- primary healthcare in community health settings and population health units
- chronic disease management in hospitals and community health centres.
From large technologically advanced tertiary hospitals in our metropolitan and regional cities, to community health centres servicing rural, remote and Indigenous communities, we offer exciting career pathways and employment opportunities for oral health professionals.
Why is Queensland Health recruiting?
Thanks to its sub-tropical climate, relaxed outdoor lifestyle, growing infrastructure and stable economy, Queensland is the preferred location for many new arrivals each year. With over 1500 people moving to Queensland each week, it is the fastest growing state in Australia. Queensland will continue to be Australia’s growth capital, accounting for more than 30 per cent of Australia’s population growth between now and 2020.
Recruitment remains a major priority for the Queensland Government, with a target to employ more than 3500 doctors, nurses and allied health professionals from 2009 - 2012.
In addition to recruiting more health professionals, the Queensland Government’s record health spend enables us to press forward with our record $6 billion health infrastructure program. This program, the largest in Australia’s history, is delivering new and upgraded health facilities across the state in locations such as the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Cairns, Mackay, Townsville, Mt Isa and Rockhampton.
We welcome people who can help shape the direction of Queensland's healthcare services now and into the future - people who want to do great things every day.
