The Queensland Health media unit is a seven-days-a-week point of contact for Queensland media outlets.
The unit's work is pivotal in keeping the public informed on key health issues and initiatives.
Media unit staff work on a variety of breaking media issues every day, providing answers to journalist questions, responding to requests for media interviews, organising media conferences and drafting media releases.
The unit also ensure the smooth flow of public health information, via the media, during disease outbreaks and natural disasters. Examples include the major dengue fever outbreak in north Queensland, swine flu and widespread flooding.
They also act as a liaison point for Queensland Health public affairs managers and officers throughout the state in hospitals and health districts.
