Visas and citizenship

Queensland Health recognises the value international skilled clinical professionals have in the workforce, often filling long-term vacancies where there is a shortage of candidates with skills and experience.

Registration

To be eligible to work in non-clinical roles (scientific, administrative, trades etc) in Queensland Australia, you must meet the requirements of the relevant registration body/professional association for your occupation.

To help reduce the turnaround time for your Visa application, some professionals may be eligible to apply for registration/membership before obtaining a job with Queensland Health.

Information regarding the professions eligible for working visas in Australia and the assessment/registration body for your occupation is available from The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) - Skilled Occupation Lists (formerly known as Form 1121i)

Visa

If you are not an Australian Citizen or resident, you will need to apply for a visa in order to work in Queensland.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) provides a comprehensive overview of working in Queensland with information on residency visas and citizenship requirements. Please visit the DIAC website for further information.

Citizenship

Applicants for Australian citizenship must meet certain requirements. A person must have been present in Australia as a permanent resident for a total of two years in the last five years; including a total of 12 months in the two years immediately prior to application.

Further information can be found on the DIAC website.
