"I moved from Berlin to Queensland in 2006 to gain experience and advance my career as a doctor.  What was a one year change in scenery stint has now been over four years.  The working conditions in Queensland Health are fantastic.  There is better shift structure, I'm working less hours and the remuneration is great.  I also love the Queensland climate and being able to enjoy walking on the endless beaches and experience a diversity of flora and fauna that you would only see in a zoo anywhere else".

Senior Medical Officer, Dr Gabriela Strey made the move to Queensland from Berlin and loves the better working conditions that Queensland Health has to offer.

"The people are great. There is a wide range of clinical presentations and available practice - you can almost be whatever you want to be if you get the right training.  I'm thrilled to be able to practise as a GP in our Primary Health Care Centres, including outreach on outer islands, perform anaesthetics, ward care and emergency care in the hospital, and have a role in the strategic direction of the health service as acting Director of Medical Services.  I feel I have finally been able to have an interesting job, but also have my own time to be able to relax out of work".

Rural Generalist, Dr Oscar Whitehead made the move to Queensland and enjoys the variety in case work and the relaxed lifestyle of the Torres Strait".

"I find Gladstone Hospital to be a really collegial place to work with a diverse and varied workload.  That's what I love about it. I have the opportunity to utilise the skills I learnt in medical training.  This is what I consider being a real doctor.  Gladstone also has the perfect climate as I swim most mornings before heading in to work and take my dogs to the marina for a walk ".

Director of Medical Services, Dr Shauna Taylor enjoys Gladstone's perfect climate and utilising her skills in a collegial work environment.

"Being a rural generalist in Biloela, I do emergency work for severe emergencies such as trauma and obstetrics complications and I get to manage that myself in a rural setting.  Biloela Hospital also has a fantastic staff of nurses and allied health staff and we all get along very well and work together nicely".

Rural Generalist, Dr Michael Thomas loves the challenges and support that working in a rural location can bring.
