Integrated Patient Transport Unit

The Integrated Patient Transport Unit has been established to lead reform in patient transport. The Unit is working collaboratively with staff across Qld Health and in partnership with government and external agencies to improve the availability and delivery of patient transport to Queenslanders.

Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme

The Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS) provides assistance to patients and in some cases their carers to enable them to access specialist medical services from which they are isolated.

A subsidy is provided to approved patients and carers (escorts) to assist in the cost of travel and accommodation to the nearest specialist medical service that is more than 50 km from the patient's nearest hospital.

An application form must be completed and forwarded to the hospital nearest to the patient's place of residence. These hospitals are responsible for all aspects of patient travel, and inquiries regarding the subsidy should be directed to these facilities.

Services covered by the scheme must be recommended (i.e. patients have a referral) by a medical practitioner as being necessary for the health of the patient.

The PTSS patient pamphlet and information booklet are available for download from the links below.

Additional information is available for patient's wishing to apply to access the Scheme from their local hospital, or by calling 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84).
