Role Profile - Senior Medical Officer
Purpose of role
-
The Senior Medical Officer will provide, high quality clinical care to the acutely ill and injured members of the community presenting to the department.

The Senior Medical Officer will also be responsible for direct supervision of junior medical officers in the Emergency Department.

The teaching role includes registrar and case manager supervision and teaching of medical students.
Key skill requirements / competencies
-
Provide quality care to patients requiring services offered by the Emergency Department.

Provide a clinical teaching, supervision and support to registrars, resident medical officer, interns, and students.

Arrange, consult and cooperate with other hospital staff as required with respect to patient management and other related issues.

Manage patient transfers, discharge, post discharge follow up in accordance with the best interests of the patient.

Participate in the medical retrieval of patients from outside the hospital as required.

Participate in/or coordinate, develop and present clinical audits and continuous quality improvement activities.

Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals.

Initiate and implement relevant researh activities, obtaining the approval of the appropriate Ethics Committee where relevant.

Foster clinical, academic and research relationships within the hospital, District and broader academic community.

Document all relevant clinical information legibly, concisely and accurately.
Qualifications / Professional registration / Other requirements
These requirements must be met to be considered for selection.

Registration with, or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

Hold specialist qualifications in Emergency Medicine acceptable to the Medical Board of Australia and to the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.
